GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs technical drafting work to maintain and update the GIS land ownership records and assist with GIS operations regarding mapping needs as directed by supervisor. Maintain the parcels and other layers in the GIS and provide mapping related support to all departments within Box Elder County.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general guidance and direction of Box Elder County Recorder, with some additional direction from the GIS Supervisor, performing duties that involve independent judgment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Works with all mapping procedures utilizing GIS methods and procedures as directed. Specific duties could include spatial data entry and analysis, map annotation, making maps, answering phones, writing letters, preparing reports and presentations. Update mapping related projects and generate new maps for all departments within Box Elder County, the public and other government agencies. Also works with other departments and the public in researching various public issues to assist in finding solutions.
Performs a variety of technical duties related to the development or creation of digitized maps through a geographic information system using ArcInfo. Must be familiar with ArcGIS Desktop’s COGO, extension and be able to read, interpret and draw parcels based on legal descriptions. Updates and maintains the parcel layer in the GIS according to property descriptions on deeds subdivision plats and other conveying documents. Performs related tasks to assist the Cadastral Mapper and other staff as needed.
Provides assistance to other GIS staff with projects as needed or required. Produces maps, drawings, graphics and database reports from GIS system and related software; operates computer and large format printer as needed. Collects spatial data to update and maintain current GIS shapefiles and provides working solutions to all computer mapping operations as directed. Must be able to publish complex mapping projects. Must be able to read and interpret topographic maps, survey maps and aerial photographs. Maintain current knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices within GIS and related fields.
Assists the other GIS staff to maintain the web map, and collecting. Assists in a variety of office related duties. Provides general information to title companies, attorneys, the public, and county employees.
Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple projects or tasks.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Box Elder County Recorder.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, or directly related field with 1-2 years of experience in a GIS related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be proficient in ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and SQL Server. Must have experience working with ArcGIS Enterprise server, COGO, and geodatabase topology. Preference will be given to those experienced with ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Collector.
Must have the ability to effectively organize, present and integrate goals both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the general public. Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple projects or tasks. Must be able to make independent decision. Any experience with survey grade Trimble GPS equipment is a plus.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, and be able to distinguish between shades of color and thickness of lines.
Work is generally performed in an office, document vault, or other environmentally controlled room; and Work may expose incumbent to volatile situations with the public. Some duties may include frequent outdoor field checking which may require some additional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, driving, hiking, and/or operating technical equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have valid Utah Driver’s license. This position is full-time (40 Hours per week- five 8 hour days). The hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. occasionally the employee may be asked to work flexible hours and may be required to attend some night meetings.
