Tips for Preparing for Possible Flooding March 7, 2023
Good evening Box Elder County! It's not very often that we still see so much snow on the valley floors this late in the season.
Our forecast for the next 10 days continues to show rain and snow. We want our community to be prepared as the weather warms and the moisture continues. It's not too early to prepare for possible flooding.
Here are a few simple preparedness tips for possible flooding:
-If you have had flooding issues in the past, assess your current flooding risk.
-Get sump pumps for basement leakage from groundwater.
-Order sandbags from the hardware store for preparedness purposes. It is best to order sandbags NOW because they are hard to come by *IF* flooding occurs. (You can also order empty sandbags from Amazon)
-Watch for notices of emergency sandbag filling operations from your city/town on their social media sites.
- If you live in unincorporated Box Elder County, keep your eye on our Facebook Page for information about sandbag filling operations.
-Clear out your gutters, downspouts, irrigation ditches, and storm drains of debris that could clog and cause a dam.
-Move snow away from window wells and the foundation of your house.
-Seal any cracks or leaks in the walls or foundation of your house.
-Make a personal preparedness plan with your family
-Check on elderly neighbors or neighbors who may have special needs. Lend a hand to help them prepare their house for possible flooding.
